We offer CAE design of the shape from perspective of the optimal stiffness and weight ratio based on a defined build-up space. Another way of optimization is thickness distribution for shell structures – it is necessary to define the objective function e.g., maximum stiffness and the targeted volume reduction. It is possible to add constrains in terms of technology (e.g. direction of deformation) or constraints of displacement or stress magnitude. In contrast, thickness optimization is only used for thin-walled structures with thickness as an independent parameter that is optimized across the entire model.
